Lisa Sohmer is an expert college counseling professional with more than 25 years of experience working with students and families. She is a past President of the New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling (NYSACAC) and was awarded the association’s President’s Award in 2008. Lisa was elected to the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) Board of Directors in 2006 and served a three-year term. She continues to serve on state and national committees and is active in NACAC, NYSACAC, SACAC and HECA.
Lisa is a frequent speaker on topics related to the transition to post-secondary education and has been interviewed by Newsweek, CBS’s “Up to the Minute,” US News & World Report, The Daily Beast.com, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, Good Housekeeping, American Airlines’ in-flight magazine, Bloomberg.com, Education.com, Businessweek.com and many other publications.
Lisa has recently worked with students in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Peru, Portugal and Uruguay.
Lisa graduated from Connecticut College with a degree in English and Government and received a Master’s degree in Journalism from NYU.
